Irish food, drink, and horticulture exports reached a record €17 billion in 2024, according to Bord Bia's Exports Performance and Prospects Report for 2024/25, marking a 5% increase compared to 2023.
Bord Bia attributed the growth primarily to higher pricing, noting that inflation continues to impact businesses and consumers alike.
Key Export Categories:
- Dairy: Exports remained stable year-on-year at €6.3 billion, retaining their position as the largest export category. This represents a doubling in value compared to the 2014/15 report.
- Meat and Livestock: Valued at €4.3 billion, this category saw a 6% increase compared to 2023.
- Drinks: Exports surged 19% to over €2.1 billion, driven by strong whiskey sales, which rose 13% to surpass €1 billion. The emerging “ready-to-drink” category also experienced significant growth, with export values tripling to €235 million.
Export Destinations:
- The European Union accounted for €5.9 billion of total exports, a 4% year-on-year increase. France, Germany, and Belgium were the largest EU customers.
- The UK remained Ireland’s largest single market, matching the EU total with €5.9 billion in exports.
- Exports to North America climbed 14% to €2 billion.
